Awards were announced, including nominations for Best Feature, which are Ballast, Frozen River, Rachel Getting Married, Wendy and Lucy, and The Wrestler. Also announced were the finalists for other awards like the Piaget Producers Award. Jason Bateman and Sandra Oh served as nomination presenters at the event.

Awards are given in the following categories: Best Feature, Best First Feature, John Cassavetes Award (given to the best feature made for a budget under $500,000), Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best First Screenplay, Best Male Lead, Best Female Lead, Best Supporting Male, Best Supporting Female, Best Cinematography, Best Foreign Film, Best Documentary, and the Robert Altman Award (given to one film's director, casting director, and its ensemble cast).
