Baselworld, the most important international trade fair of the watch and jewellery industry, again this year gave recognition to the sector's greatest timepieces – and once again first place went to A. Lange & Söhne. The TOURBOGRAPH “Pour le Mérite” was chosen by readers of the German Sunday newspaper Welt am Sonntag and specialist watch magazine Armbanduhren as “Watchof the Year 2007”.
This exclusive model from the traditional Saxon watch manufacturer Lange, which was first presented to the public in October 2005, won with 1,285 of 19,342 voices through 132 top current international models and came away with first prize for the fifth time in its short life. It had already been named best idea of the year by the Spanish newspaper Actualidad Economica in the category watchmaking and as the best limited edition watch at the “Middle East Watches of the Year Award” in Dubai. It won the Jury's Special Prize in November 2006 in the most important Swiss watch award, the “Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève”, and as recently as March 2007 was given the “Golden Balance” award by readers of German watch magazine Uhren Magazin.
The unique TOURBOGRAPH “Pour le Mérite” is the world's first one-minute tourbillon in a wristwatch format with fusée-and-chain transmission and additional chronograph and rattrapante functions as well as a power-reserve indicator. Only 101 pieces of this limited-edition watch will be hand-crafted by Lange's master watchmakers with the platinum version costing 389,800 Euro.
